He Appeared

By A. Trevor Sutton

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth (Luke 1:26 ESV).

The word appear, originating in Latin, means “to come into view” or “to be visible.”

Gabriel appeared to Mary, telling her that a newborn child would soon appear. This child would be no ordinary child; he would be Son of the Most High.

At Christmastime, we sing, “He appeared.” These two words are simply profound. The appearance of Jesus, born in a barn in backwater Bethlehem, is nothing short of a miracle.

Jesus is God come into view, God made fully visible. God performed this miraculous appearance for you and for your salvation. He appeared so you can have new life now and for all eternity.

TRY THIS: Grab a piece of paper and write down every God sighting that happens over the next twenty-four hours. Look for times throughout your day when you see God at work in some way.
