Begin by reading 2 Corinthians 5:14–15.
Legend has it that a wealthy person stepped into the apostle Paul’s prison cell one day. He was surprised to see Paul so old and frail. Yet, Paul showed a strength, a calmness.
The visitor asked one of Paul’s friends, “What is the secret of his power?” The friend said, “Could you not see it? Paul is in love!” The wealthy man was confused. “In love?” he asked. The friend responded, “Paul is in love with Jesus Christ.” The man replied, “Is that all?” The friend replied, “That is everything.”
And that is the secret to joy. Without Jesus, you’re like a boat without a rudder floundering at sea. Every wave, every conflict tosses you about. But when you’re anchored in Christ, that is everything. You take his joy to work, back home, and with you even when nobody is watching.
When you anchor your life in Christ, you can find joy in what Christ has won for you - forgiveness, a restored relationship with the Father, and eternal life with him. In a word: everything!
What’s next? Where do you look for joy? Do you ever find yourself looking to your life circumstances, family members, or even to your addictions to provide happiness? Today, Jesus wipes the slate clean. He is your everything! Take time to read Romans 8 and list the many ways Jesus meets your every need.
Prayer starter: Jesus, your death on the cross for me means everything to me . . .
