Candle Light Craft

What You’ll Need

  • Construction paper (pre-cut into 9” x 6” pieces)
  • Yellow tissue paper (pre-cut into 3” x 3” squares)
  • Small paper plates (X cut in center)
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Washable markers
  • Battery operated tea lights (one per child)

What You’ll Do

Demonstrate how to roll the construction paper to form a “pillar candle,” then tape in place. (You will need to help young children tape, or ask an older child to assist the little ones.)

Invite the children use markers to decorate the paper plate with a Christmas theme or Christmas colors.

Help children push their “candle” through the paper plate X. (Depending on how tightly they rolled their candle, you may need to enlarge the X a bit or apply tape to make the precut X smaller.)

Demonstrate how to gently tuck the tissue paper “flame” into the top of the candle.

Use tape to secure the tea light to the bottom of the candle.

What You’ll Say

We’ll see many candles throughout the Christmas season. Every time you see a candle, remember that Jesus is the Light of the World. He brings the light of his forgiveness and love to everyone who believes in him and calls him Savior.
